San Beda made its sweet revenge and vented its ire on Arellano, hacking out a 35-point drubbing, 96-61, in the NCAA Season 98 men’s basketball tournament Friday, Oct. 7, at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Coming from a tight 83-80 loss against the Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers last Oct. 4, the Red Lions made sure to step on the gas as early as the first half this time around as they zoomed to a dominant 55-23 lead over the Chiefs.

San Beda wasted no time and showed no mercy in the first quarter, limiting Arellano to nine points only to gain a huge 20-point lead.

The Lions, behind the joint efforts of James Kwekuteye, Winston Ynot, and Yukien Andrada, virtually secured the win after that commanding first half and never looked back at that point en route to a 5-2 record.

JB Bahio joined in the fray and spearheaded San Beda’s balanced attack with 13 points to go with eight rebounds and three assists while Kwekuteye likewise finished with 13 points and eight rebounds.

“Mag-focus lang talaga kami kasi start pa lang ng season up and down na ‘yong performance namin,” said Bahio, how San Beda regrouped following its loss against JRU. “Sabi lang ni coach (Yuri Escueta) na maging consistent lang kami and bawal talaga mag-relax.

“Kasi pag galing kami sa panalo, sa training parang ang taas namin. Kaya kailangan maintain lang kami sa gitna,” he added.

Ynot chipped in 11 points and five rebound while Justine Sanchez and Jacob Cortez had 10 points apiece for the Lions.

Come the second half too, the Lions even led by as many as 51 points as the error-plagued Chiefs fell into despair without showing any sort of resistance.

It was indeed a dismal day for the Chiefs, who dropped to a 4-4 slate, as Shane Menina was the lone player to reach the double-digit mark with 10 points, four rebounds, and three assists.
