Gilas Pilipinas has decided to pull out from its scheduled friendly against French team ASVEL-Lyon which is set to play a series of exhibition games next month.

Gilas Pilipinas

The team, which is owned by retired NBA star Tony Parker, is initially set to play Gilas, PBA team Blackwater and Commissioner’s Cup guest team Bay Area Dragons from August 29 to September 4 as part of the celebration of the 75th year diplomatic ties with France and the Philippines.

Reportedly taking the spot left by Gilas is another PBA team in NLEX which by then is also in the middle of its own preparations for the second conference.

The winningest team in French pro basketball with 20 titles is set to arrive at the end of the month along with Parker as the friendlies will serve as openers to the PBA Philippine Cup finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

ASVEL is expected to bring in a formidable lineup which will feature naturalized player 7-foot-3 Youssoupha Fall, national team member Antoine Diot, Nando De Colo and Kostas Antetokounmpo, brother of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The Bossing will test their mettle first against ASVEL before the Dragons have their turn in the second friendly while the match against the Road Warriors will serve as a conclusion to the weeklong activity.
