Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Bambol Tolentino said Tuesday they had formally submitted the list of athletes who would compete in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam in May.

Tolentino added the SEAG Organizing Committee has received the list and they are only waiting for the formal approval from the host.

The country has sent 979 delegates including officials in the biennial meet.

Tolentino said preparations in Vietnam are in full swing despite the country’s pandemic situation following their Chef de Mission meeting recently.

Tolentino attended on behalf of PH Chief of Mission Mon Fernandez.

“We inspected the hotels and venues, okay naman. They’re open to tourists pero hindi pa sila nagde-decide if there would be spectators in the venue sa SEAG,” Tolentino said in Tuesday’s Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum held online.

Organizers also informed that only 31 delegates from each country can participate in the opening ceremony scheduled May 12.

Meanwhile, football, beach handball and kickboxing will be the first sports that will see action in the biennial meet.

The three events will start on May 6, six days before the formal opening.

Diving competitions will fire off on May 8 and rowing on May 9, while chess, men’s and women’s futsal and pencak silat will be on May 10.
