Filipino fighter Jeremy Miado hopes to start year 2022 on a high note when he faces Japanese foe Senzo Ikeda in ONE: Heavy Hitters at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Jan. 14.

Gaining much-needed confidence from his back-to-back wins against Miao Li Tao of China, Miado said he is raring to compete in the Circle knowing he’s a force to be reckoned with in the strawweight division.
“That win (against Miao) really boosted my confidence. As an athlete, to win back-to-back fights shows that I am really improving after every fight. I was also able to prove to myself that I do deserve to be fighting here,” said Miado, who improved to a 10-4 mixed martial arts record.
Against Ikeda, Miado sees an opportunity for him to move a step closer to a title shot as the Japanese fighter already faced the likes of Team Lakay stars in Lito Adiwang and Danny Kingad.
With his newfound family and training ground in Marrok Force, Miado had studied Ikeda’s previous bouts and described him as a “very active fighter and capable fighter on the ground.”
“I look at this fight as a stepping stone for me to enter the rankings and get a title shot soon. And I’m just grateful that Marrok has helped me a lot in my training, allowing me to improve in my game, both in my striking and ground game,” added Miado.
“This fight will be my first for the year, so they could expect me to continue to improve this 2022. Again, my goal is to enter that strawweight ranking and it’s the one thing that I really want to accomplish this year.”
As of this writing, Joshua Pacio of Team Lakay remains as the reigning champion of the strawweight division, followed by Bokang Masunyane (No. 1), Yosuke Saruta (No. 2), Jarred Brooks (No. 3), Hiroba Minowa (No. 4), and Alex Silva (No. 5).
