
MRT-Negros displayed spunk in the crunch and outlasted Sabong International Spikers, 20-25, 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 15-5, to finish fifth in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League for Men at the Aquamarine Recreational Center in Lipa City, Batangas.
Trailing 2-1 after three sets, the Negros Spikers unleashed their offensive strength in the fourth frame and maintained their momentum in the deciding set to end their campaign on a high note.
Christian Marcelino skippered MRT-Negro’s assault by firing 15 kills to finish with 16 points, while Leo Ordiales and Jian Matthew Salarzon unloaded 15 points apiece.
Gadpray Aregado also came off the bench in the first set and contributed 10 points including three blocks, even as Jhun Kahulugan chipped in 11 points.
Louie Pudadera also stepped up for the Negros Spikers by delivering 25 of the team’s 27 excellent sets on top of finishing three points.
The win also reaffirmed MRT-Negros’ mastery over SIS, whom they also downed in five sets in the preliminaries.
The Negros Spikers banked on their 58 attacks, eight blocks and five aces while also gaining 34 points off SIS’s unforced errors.
Three players from SIS scored in double figures, but their efforts went futile. Jelord Talisayan posted 16 points, Charles Absin added 13 and Mark Joseph Rocamora finished with 11 points to no avail.
