Onic Philippines just couldn’t sustain its impressive start as it absorbed a 2-0 sweep at the hands of RRQ Hoshi in their second-round matchup in ONE Esports: MPL Invitational on Thursday, November 4.

Onic seemed to run out of gas in the series following a hot start that saw the Filipinos dominate the Indonesians in the opening game. However, the MPL Philippine Season 8 grand finalist couldn’t get the final push it needed as RRQ picked up the pace and turned back the Filipinos to set up a quarterfinal matchup with MPL Malaysia champions Team SMG.

The Filipinos went off to a hot start behind the early aggression from Ian “Beemo” Sergio’s Jawhead and Allen “Baloyskie” Baloy’s Mathilda to delay Albert Neilsen “Alberttt” Iskandar’s Yi Sun Shin. Onic PH continued to roll as the Filipinos took the first Lord and managed to take down RRQ’s bottom lane inhibitor turret.

RRQ came back with its own punches as it took down four heroes to the side of Onic during that Lord march to get some breathing space. That allowed them to drag the match to a late game as it banked on its two-marksman setup anchored on YSS and Clint.

Those two heroes punished Onic in the final clash at the 23-minute mark as the Indonesians took down three heroes from Onic. RRQ then went on for the death push with Marky “Markyyy” Capacio’s Claude the only hero left to defend the base against five RRQ players.

RRQ scored the first point of the series, 23-13, in 24 minutes behind Alberttt who scattered 9-3-7 stat line while Schevenko David “Skylar” Tendean on the Clint provided the support with a 6-3-11 KDA.

RRQ never let go of the momentum in Game 2 as the Indonesians totally outclassed Onic with a masterful 21-6 victory in just 15 minutes of play.

Alberttt took full control of the early game with his Lancelot finishing with a 5-1-14 KDA. Onic tried to drag the match to the late game as it tried to bank on the power scaling of Markyyy’s Alice.

Skylar on his Bruno and Rivaldi “R7” Fatahon the Esmeralda proved to be too much for Onic as the two provided the massive damage for the Indonesians in the late game with 6-2-6 and 6-0-8 showing respectively.

With the loss, only two Philippine teams remain in the tournament with RSG Philippines taking on MPL Indonesia champions Onic Esports in the quarterfinals while Blacklist International awaits the winner between Bigetron Alpha and See You Soon.
