The Minnesota Timberwolves fired president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas on Wednesday in a surprise move that comes less than a month before the start of the 2021-2022 NBA season.

A brief statement from Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor confirmed the dismissal of Rosas, a 43-year-old Colombian who was hired by Minnesota in 2019 after spells with the Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks.

“Today the Minnesota Timberwolves parted ways with President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas,” Taylor said in a statement.

“As an organisation we remain committed to building a winning team that our fans and city can be proud of.”

The Timberwolves have posted losing records for the past two seasons, finishing 13th in the Western Conference in 2020-2021 with a 23-49 record, only a marginal improvement on their 19-45 finish in 2020.
