Former Philippine Open champion Miguel Tabuena produced a remarkable performance as he fired nine birdies on his way to a nine-under par 63 effort in the second round of the Idaho Open Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the Quail Hollow Golf Club in Boise, Idaho.
The 26-year-old Tabuena, who competed for the Philippine team during the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil, followed up his opening round of 65 with a better round that saw him commit just two bogeys.
After a bogey on 2, Tabuana rebounded immediately with a birdie on 3.
He made par on 4 then connected five straight birdies from 5 to 9. Tabuena also birdied on 11, 14 and 18, which gave him a two-day aggregate score of 128 for 12-under for the tournament.
Tabuena enjoys a five-shot advantage on first round co-leader Brad Marek, who carded a similar 65 with Keynan Fanslow in the first round but came through with a 69 for 133.
Tied for third to fourth places are Steve Schneiter and Jamie Hill at 134, while at solo fifth is Kyle Mitsunaga at 135. Fanslow, who shot a second round 74, shares sixth and seventh spots with Li Wang at 138, while eighth place is Owen Mahaffey at 139.
Bridger Holmes, Mitch Carlson and Travis Hofland are at ninth to 11th with 140.
