Meralco survived a late rally by NLEX to escape with a 104-101 victory and secure the twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals of the PBA Philippine Cup at the Don Honorio Ventura State University in Bacolor, Pampanga.
Allein Maliksi scored 22 points while rookie Alvin Pasaol added a conference-high 17 as the Bolts led from the onset before overcoming the fiery shooting of Road Warriors neophyte Calvin Oftana in the final minutes to come away with the win.
The Bolts improved to 8-2 with a non-bearing game against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel the following day while the Road Warriors, assured of a quarters spot, finished with a 5-6 slate.
